Museum of the Moon

Created by UK artist Luke Jerram, Museum of the Moon displays the lunar surface in incredible detail on a seven-metre-wide sphere that is suspended in the air. It is massive, magnificent and mesmerising.

The exhibit uses imagery captured by the NASA spacecraft Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter and, at an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the sphere represents five kilometres of the Moon’s surface.

To help students get the most from the experience we will be offering a series of differentiated worksheets to encourage them to focus more closely on the Moon. These will take the form of treasure hunts, ranging from finding simple shapes for our younger visitors, through to finding the Apollo landing
sites and searching for lunar features that tell us about the history of the Moon and how it was made.

Museum of the Moon is at Life Science Centre until 6 May 2019.
